Disqualification List
Must
be 21 years of age.
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must not have committed a misdemeanor within the last 3 years
- Must not have used an illegal drug (i.e. LSD) within the last
3 years.
- Must not have used marijuana within the last 2 years.
- An applicant cannot have been convicted of a Domestic
Violence Act.
- Must not have committed a DWI within the last 5 years whether
from an administrative sanction by a Motor Vehicle Department,
a criminal conviction or a military disciplinary action.
- Must not have committed multiple DWIs within the last 10 years
whether from an administrative sanction by a Motor Vehicle Department,
a criminal conviction or a military disciplinary action.
- Must have no felony convictions.
- Must pass all steps of the Selection Process.
- Must have law enforcement experience who is/was responsible
for and perform routine police patrol duties in a full-time
capacity.
- Must be non-probationary with a current law enforcement certification
that is issued or recognized and approved by the New Mexico
Department of Public Safety.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience
from the date of certification.
- Military Police, Aviation Police, Open Space Police and the
like will be evaluated for candidacy on a case-by-case basis
based on their experience and training. These candidates must
meet the New Mexico Department of Public Safety requirements
for certification.
- In state/Out of state laterals must pass the physical fitness test at 50% during the initial testing period. They
must pass the physical fitness test at 60% of the physical
assessment standard upon completion of the On-the-Job Training
period.
- Must complete the APD Lateral Police Academy, which will be
held in the Spring and Fall of each year. This Lateral Academy
will be approximately 200 hours (5 weeks) of classroom instruction.
- Must complete at least 480 hours (3 months) of the APD On-the-Job
Training program.
- Out-of-State Lateral Officers must complete the 3 week Certification
by Waiver course (held in Santa Fe, New Mexico) at their own expense prior to applying with the Albuquerque Police Department..
