Note: all placements and staffing levels may be modified at any

- What hours do I have to work?
Your normal schedule will be based on the school’s hours. You
are expected to work a forty (40) hour week. Your assigned
sergeant will determine the specific hour and the method for
ensuring you are reporting to work at your school on time. You
will be afforded the opportunity to work on school grounds in
support of after school programs. You will be encouraged to
develop programs at your assigned school, subject to approval by
your chain of command, if no programs currently exist. You will
be compensated through overtime and/or comp time, as you would
any hours worked in excess of your 40 hour work week.
- What happens to me during the summer?
We will assign you to a unit within the department as needed.
Your summer assignment will not be subject to grievance.
- Do I have to work the summer?
No. You can take the summer off. You will be required to use any
comp time or vacation to cover your time off. If you do not have
sufficient comp or vacation time, you can request leave without
pay. If you are approved for leave without pay, you will be
responsible for paying your entire medical and dental premiums,
as well as any premium associated with additional life insurance
coverage. If you have elected to participate in the flexible
spending account, the contributions you miss over the summer,
starting with the new benefits period (July 1st), will be “made
up” through an increased deduction, pro-rated over the
subsequent pay periods through the end of the next benefit year.
- How do I get assigned a school?
This is a non-bidding position. The schools will be assigned
according to the needs of the unit. School assignments are not
grievable.
- What benefits am I eligible to receive?
This position is defined as a rehire position, as described in
the APOA contract. As such, you will be eligible for all the
benefits associated with being a rehire. You will also be
subject to all the requirement of the specialized unit.
- What do I do when school is closed during the school year?
All in-service calendar days for the Albuquerque school system
will be used as in-service training days. If no training is
available, you will be assigned to a unit within the department
for that day. For example, you may be assigned to take calls for
service. These assignments are not subject to grievance.
- Will I be required to wear a uniform?
Yes. You will be required to wear a standard APD uniform and all
necessary equipment per SOP 2-06.
