While each unit of the APD adheres to these mission-oriented values, they also have unique missions that guide their work. The Gang Unit, DWI Unit, and Open Space Unit represent just three of the Albuquerque Police Department units with available openings.
Gang Unit
The Gang Unit’s mission is to seek advanced awareness of gang activity to help suppress gang violence & crime and maintain safety within the community. One primary focus of the unit is to leverage the insights and intelligence gathered to get dangerous guns off the street and out of gang members’ hands.
DWI Unit
Impaired driving is responsible for thousands of deaths each year. It is also against the law. The ABQ DWI unit works to keep impaired drivers off the road through a number of measures, including running checkpoints and running events. The unit’s primary mission is to make sure that people know law enforcement is on patrol for impaired drivers. Often, this can make anyone who is considering getting behind the wheel while intoxicated think twice about it.
APD Open Space Unit
Members of the APD Open Space Unit patrol outdoor open spaces by foot, motorized vehicles and mountain bikes. These fully commissioned law enforcement officers also emphasize making direct contact with the public to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Beyond law enforcement, the Open Space Unit’s mission is to ensure that all residents and visitors are safe and able to enjoy themselves while visiting our city’s public open spaces
