The Horse Mounted Unit (HMU) is not just ceremonial — it is a critical part of APD's tactical response. From protests and demonstrations to search and rescue operations, mounted officers provide unmatched visibility, crowd management, and mobility.

What You'll Do

Deploy During Civil Disturbances
Deploy during protests, demonstrations, and civil disturbances.
Crowd Control & Area Management
Provide crowd control and area management in high-traffic situations.
Search & Rescue Operations
Conduct search and rescue operations within Albuquerque city limits.
Multi-Agency Operations
Partner with other agencies during large-scale or multi-jurisdictional operations.
Maintain & Train Your Horse
Maintain and train with your horse to ensure peak readiness and performance.
