APD's Traffic Unit enforces roadway safety, investigates crashes, and provides specialized support for citywide operations.
About the Traffic Unit
The Traffic Unit is responsible for keeping Albuquerque's roadways safe. From enforcing traffic laws and investigating collisions to providing escorts for dignitaries, Traffic Officers ensure order and safety on the city's streets.
Specialty Pay: +$50 biweekly specialty pay (Motors Unit)

What You'll Do
Your day-to-day responsibilities in this specialized unit.
Proactive Traffic Enforcement
Monitor roadways and enforce traffic laws to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, improve compliance, and enhance public safety.
Crash Investigation and Reconstruction
Respond to traffic collisions, document scenes, gather evidence, and conduct investigations to determine contributing factors and causes.
Motorcycle Operations
Utilize specialized motorcycle units to conduct enforcement, navigate congested areas, and provide rapid response throughout the city.
Dignitary Escorts and Special Events
Coordinate roadway safety during public events, parades, dignitary visits, and other operations requiring traffic management and escort services.
Shift Schedule
Work primarily day shifts with occasional adjusted hours for nighttime operations.
