APD's Search and Rescue Team responds when lives are on the line — rescuing lost, stranded, or injured individuals from hard-to-reach locations.
About Search and Rescue
Search and Rescue (SAR) is a collateral duty that trains officers to respond to emergencies in Albuquerque's rugged terrain. When individuals become lost, stranded, or injured in dangerous areas, SAR officers bring the skills and equipment needed to save lives.
Specialty Pay: +$50 biweekly specialty pay (Search & Rescue Dive)

What You'll Do

Rescue Lost Individuals
Respond to calls for lost or stranded individuals in mountains, rivers, and wilderness.
Perform Challenging Rescues
Perform rescues in challenging or dangerous locations.
Render Emergency Aid
Render emergency aid until medical professionals arrive.
Specialized Training
Train regularly in specialized rescue skills and equipment.
On-Call Response
Remain on-call to respond when needed.
