About the Open Space Unit
The Open Space Unit is trained to respond to emergencies in Albuquerque's unique terrain. Using airboats, ATVs, 4-wheel drive trucks, and mountain bikes, these officers provide law enforcement coverage and lifesaving rescue services in areas traditional patrol cars cannot reach.

What You'll Do

Respond to emergencies in Albuquerque's open space areas including mountains and rivers.
Operate Specialized Vehicles
Operate ATVs, 4x4 trucks, airboats, and mountain bikes to access difficult terrain.
Perform Rescues
Perform rescues in dangerous areas including mountainsides and river corridors.
Law Enforcement Presence
Provide law enforcement presence in trails, open spaces, and wilderness areas.
Multi-Unit Collaboration
Collaborate with other units and rescue teams during complex operations.
